Texas Monthly Mike Levy and the Founder of The Texas Tribune Evan Smith will share their insights as two legendary entrepreneurs who revolutionized Texas media from here in Austin.

Experience the state-of-the-art Austin Media Center at Austin PBS as an audience member inside Studio A, where we will receive a warm welcome from Austin PBS CEO Luis Patiño. Learn how Texas Monthly started in 1973 and became the National Magazine of Texas, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with more than 2.5 million readers each month. After their dynamic fireside chat-style conversation, Mike and Evan will open up an interactive Q&A session with the audience!

Each ticket includes entry to the event, a complimentary issue of Texas Monthly magazine, and a networking mixer with fellow alums over wine, beer, and snacks made in Austin by some of our favorite local businesses: The Austin Winery, Vacancy Brewing, Austin Gourmet Popcorn, and Antonelli’s Cheese.

Hear the entrepreneurial story of Texas Monthly

From a start-up with four typewriters in 1973 to a multi-award winning magazine with more than 2.5 million readers in 2023, Texas Monthly grew under the leadership of Mike and Evan to become the National Magazine of Texas now celebrating its 50th anniversary.


Experience the new headquarters of Austin PBS

The Austin Media Center, Austin PBS’s new headquarters on the campus of Austin Community College, is the largest 12G facility in the United States. Inside Studio A, CEO of Austin PBS Luis Patiño will welcome us as audience members, and Mike and Evan will share their stories through both a dynamic chat and interactive Q&A.

  • Q: What parking options are available at Austin PBS?

    A: Parking is FREE either as street parking around the Austin PBS building or as covered parking inside the Austin Community College Highland South Parking Garage.

  • Q: Can I bring a guest to this event?

    A: Alums are welcome to invite guests to join, but each person needs their own ticket for entry to this event.

  • Q: Are tickets transferrable/refundable?

    A: Tickets are transferrable but NOT refundable due to the upfront costs and planning required for this event. If your plans change, we are happy to help transfer your spot on the guest list to another person of your choice.
